We are on the hunt for a few more enthusiastic parent volunteers to step into Winter Workshop teaching mode! What topic would you love your eight-year-old self to know more about? What are your favorite memories from the special parts of your elementary school experience?
Winter Workshop is a favorite Ryerson tradition that gives parents a chance to share a gift or skill with our students. I remember when the PTO president approached me as a parent of a Ryerson kindergartner in 2016. I had no idea what WW was all about but I jumped right in as a co-teacher of K-1 Science Workshop. It was a huge challenge but it was so fun, and the kids had a blast making paper airplanes and slime!
Don't be intimidated by lack of knowledge or experience in what this is all about. The more parents who volunteer to teach, the more students we can include! As an instructor, your Ryerson student will be guaranteed placement in their first choice of workshop, at no fee.
Each class has a general topic (ie, Arts and Crafts), and teachers plan and teach four different lessons around that topic (one lesson for each week). You are welcome to team up with a friend and co-teach (up to 3 teachers per class). If you co-teach, you can work together at each week or divide the weeks as you see fit. You will also be provided with an assistant at each class. We limit class sizes to 15-20 students.
Examples of past topics have included Basketball, Arts and Crafts, Musical Theater, Yoga, Lego, Friendship Bracelets, Board Games, Science, Painting, and many more! All workshops will take place 3:30-4:45pm on the following dates:
1/11/24
1/18/24
1/25/24
2/1/24
Make up date: 2/15/24
We will be finalizing our classes on December 7 ahead of student registration opening on December 9. Please click below to let us know you'll be helping out!
